Every number and rule on this site traces back to a published standard or a vendor document. This page is the map: which standard governs what, where each one shows up on this site, and which training programs teach these topics. It is a pointer, not the source — always read the current standard from the body that publishes it.
How to use this page
Use the tables below to answer two questions. First, "which standard defines this?" — so when you make a claim in a design or on a ticket, you can name the authority behind it. Second, "how do I get certified in this?" — so you can map the topics you've learned here to a recognized program. This page names standards and programs accurately by number/name; it does not reproduce their text and does not invent URLs or exam codes.
Nothing on this site (including this page) is a substitute for the actual standard or the vendor data sheet. Course figures are teaching approximations. When a real design or acceptance depends on a value, trace it to its source of truth — the standard body's current publication or the exact component's documentation — before you commit it.
ITU-T G-series — fiber, grids, and transport
The ITU-T G-series recommendations define optical fiber types, the WDM channel grids, and the optical transport architecture. These are the backbone standards for everything on this site.

How to verify a claim
Every figure you rely on should trace to one of two authorities. If you can't name which, treat the number as an estimate and go find the source before you commit it.
ITU-T (fiber types, the DWDM/CWDM grids, OTN, optical safety and monitoring), IEC (laser safety, endface inspection, test methods), TIA (structured cabling/polarity), and Telcordia (component reliability). If the question is "what does valid mean?", the standard is the authority — referenced here by number; read the current edition from the body itself.
The card/optic data sheet and the current BOM/SKU list are the truth for receiver sensitivity, system budget, supported rates, reach, channel-to-port maps, and part numbers. A rate or reach that isn't in the Ekinops documentation for the exact SKU is not real — verify against Ekinops docs and the BOM.
Don't trust a number without a reference. If you can't name the ITU/IEC/TIA/Telcordia standard or the vendor data sheet a figure came from, it is an estimate — not a design input.
Certification map
These are real, recognized programs. Verify the current exam names, prerequisites, and details directly with each provider — the mapping below is by topic domain, and this page does not invent exam codes. Use it to see which topics on this site line up with which certification's domain areas.
FOA — The Fiber Optic Association
Vendor-neutral certifications. The base CFOT (Certified Fiber Optic Technician) plus specialist tracks including WDM/DWDM and design. FOA also publishes free "Fiber U" self-study courses and the FOA Reference Guide.

Nokia — Optical Network Certification (ONC)
A vendor optical-networking certification program covering DWDM/OTN transport concepts and operations. Confirm current levels and exams with Nokia.

Light Brigade — CONE
Certified Optical Network Engineer (CONE) — an optical-network engineering certification from Light Brigade. Confirm current curriculum and prerequisites with Light Brigade.

Domain names above are indicative groupings to help you plan study, not official exam blueprints. Confirm the real domain structure with each provider before you rely on it.
Ekinops offers instructor-led vendor training — typically progressing from DWDM basics, to the Ekinops360 platform, to Celestis NMS, and on to deploy/operate/maintain the equipment. However, Ekinops does not have a public named certification or academy the way the programs above do. If you want Ekinops-specific training, contact Ekinops for current course offerings and scheduling. Do not expect a public exam code — there isn't one.
